ICZI Branded 4 Port USB 3 Hub

by GFR2

img_0291I’ve never understood why devices only come with one port of a type when the specification is upgraded. When USB 2.0 came out, motherboards, laptops etc all came with plenty of USB 1.1 ports and then one USB 2.0 port. Then all USB ports on devices were USB 2.0.

USB 3.0 comes out and again manufacturers only put one USB 3.0 port on a device and all others are USB 2.0 ports!

USB 3.0 is much faster than USB 2.0 so if you could use it then why wouldn’t you?

Of course multiple devices will need multiple ports so you need a hub, I already have a 7 Port USB 3.0 hub which is great but requires power and isn’t portable.

My EDC needed a small, light and portable USB that I could use on my Lenovo Ideapad when out and about – this meant it wouldn’t be externally powered but that wouldn’t be an issue as I didn’t plan on having high power use USB devices connected to it.

There are a few options available but I opted for this ICZI branded 4 port USB 3.0 hub from Amazon for £6.99

The main body of the is small in size measuring only 44mm x 44mm x 14mm, the cable length is 125mm (155mm with the USB connector) and weighs around 40g – So perfect for my EDC, takes up a little amount of space and adds virtually no weight!

Simple 2 piece moulded plastic body housing all 4 ports, cable strain relief on the body side and a nice solid feel to all parts especially the USB connector itself, this part is quite often overlooked by manufacturers which leads to early failure of devices.

A very good little hub for daily use or for your gadget EDC.

Great post. But can you please tell me if this ICZI Branded 4 Port USB 3 Hub support quick charge for my smartphone?

Unfortunately not, it draws its power from the laptop/pc but each hub port is only rated at 5v, 500mA and the spec states not to exceed a total draw of 900mA.
